Some of my personal favourites things to ask God for include the following;
–Wisdom (We know that when Solomon chose wisdom when given the option from God, God was so impressed that he gave Solomon also the things which he didn’t ask for, talk about putting a cherry on top!)
1 Kings 3 10-13
10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.
–Double portion (Elijah was pretty awesome but I’m gonna be honest, if I’m at a birthday party 🥳 I want two slices of that birthday cake 🍰 🍰 So probably Elisha would be on the same page as me.. if he has a sweet tooth 🦷 I guess 😄 maybe I will meet him at the dessert table of the wedding feast!)
2 kings 2:9
9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
–Discernment, the ability to understand exactly what is happening
Proverbs 2:3-5
3 Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
–To see what is unseen, along with discernment of understanding, I want to clearly see what is at play. To see the unseen.
2 Corinthians 4:18
So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
3 Kings 6:17
17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.
And I realised that I didn’t have anything ‘physical’ so to speak on that prayer list. So out of humour I said to God,
And a six pack.
And he said to me “ You already have one, it’s just that you need to get off the fat in front and strengthen the muscle” 💪
And it’s true I already have what I have asked for. I already have a six pack it’s just not visible yet.
And you already have what you’ve asked for too, you already have that seed dwelling on the inside of you that seed of wisdom that seed of discernment that seed of knowledge that seed of the gift that he has given you, you are already filled with seeds.
Look at the strawberry plant, before the fruit even grows the space that holds the seed. The seeds that would dwell on the outside of the strawberry is already there prior to its fruition.
Look at how even the baby girl in her mother’s womb during gestation will already hold her eggs. She already has her seeds on the inside even prior to birth.
This isn’t a question of seeds this is an understanding that you already have what you need and yes there is some fat to trim off. There is some excess to trim off.
There are some habits that need to be trimmed off, some attitudes that need to be trimmed off, there is a thought process that needs to be trimmed off.
And something that needs to grow there is a gift that needs to be trained further, habits that need to be established, things that need to be used and practiced and strengthened.
Friend, you already have your six pack.
You already have the seeds to wonderful things.
Let’s trim and grow.
Let’s bring it to the surface.
2 Peter 1:3
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
